Yamaha U3 Silent (essential information)

Yamaha U3 Silent - Good? or Bad?
I think the idea of a Yamaha U3 with a silent mechanism installed is a really good idea. Many of us struggle with trying to keep our neighbours happy whilst playing the piano so the addition of a silent system to a Yamaha U3 is a good one. It does of course come at a cost, but more on that later

Do I have to buy a new Yamaha U3 Silent, or are the Retro-Fit options?
Retro-fitting a silent system to an existing, used, older Yamaha U3 has been done many times and is a very standard procedure. You do need an expert to do it for you but it is certainly a viable option if you don't want to buy a brand new Yamaha U3 silent piano costing something like £7000.

How much does a retro-fit silent system cost for a Yamaha U3?
Prices vary because there are several systems available. The ones that I know of so far as as follow

Silent System by Gabor Pianos
I have never seen these working but they apparenly use a laser to track the key position, meaning there is no extra weight added to the keys by sensors or wires etc. These are the cheapest available on the market at the moment I think. Contact me for pricing.

Silent System by Piano Disc / Pianodisc
This is more towards the industry standard and a much larger company than the Gabor Pianos silent system. It probably offers more features too such as recording and playback etc. But this all comes at a cost. Again, get in touch with me for up-to-date pricing

Who are you?
My name is Mark Goodwin and I run a piano shop from here in sunny Royton, Oldham, Greater Manchester. I wanted to make a page on this free website service to let you know about some free information that I have made available on my website. I've written some helpful material relating to the splendid Yamaha U3 upright piano. You can start reading it at on my Yamaha U3 page.

The Yamaha U1 is a very similar piano to the U3. So you should feel welcome to read my Yamaha U1 page and also my interesting Yamaha Piano page.
